TYSON FURY could be in line to face drug-cheat Jarrell Miller in his second bout in preparation for Deontay Wilder.
The Brit eased past an undermatched Tom Schwarz in Las Vegas over the weekend as he boxed for the first time since signing an £80million deal with US promotion Top Rank.
But Fury’s win did not receive high praise from his rivals Wilder or Anthony Joshua, however.
Here’s SunSport’s boxing round up.
FURY VS MILLER
FURY is set for a return to the ring by September or October in New York – and Brooklyner Miller could be the man in the opposite corner.
Miller was supposed to fight former heavyweight champ AJ on June 1 until he was banned for doping – but ‘Big Baby’ Miller’s six-month suspension is up in September.
Promoter Frank Warren said: “Miller’s position is something we will look at. It will be someone out of the top five next.”
Miller said: “My suspension is up in September and I think October would be a great date.
“If I got the shout, I’d take it straight away. I’ve had conversations with Bob Arum already.”
JOSHUA AND WILDER NOT IMPRESSED
HEAVYWEIGHT stars Wilder and Joshua were left unimpressed with Fury’s dismantling of German Schwarz in Vegas.
Joshua said: “I thought on Tyson Fury’s win, he done what he had to… I could talk s*** but he done what he had to, well played to him.
“I want to go back to fighting top 50 opponents – I think, why do I keep doing this s*** to myself?”
Wilder said: “It was a cool performance. It wasn’t much of an opponent. I think (Schwarz) only threw four punches. He was a punching bag.
“It’s building him up. But the performance was just OK.”
LOMACHENKO VS CAMPBELL
LUKE CAMPBELL’S battle of the Olympic golden boys with Vasiliy Lomachenko looks set for August 31 at London’s O2.
The Hull hero is the mandatory challenger for the WBC lightweight title Mikey Garcia vacated in April and was expected to face one of the sanctioning body’s most highly ranked fighters.
But, much to promoter Eddie Hearn’s chagrin, two-time Olympic champ and WBA and WBO boss Loma has been parachuted in to contest the title.
Campbell, the baby-faced 31-year-old Olympic gold winner at 2012, will instead take on arguably the finest pound-for-pound boxer on the planet but he will have home advantage.
WARRINGTON SET FOR US
JOSH WARRINGTON is ready for lift-off in the US — but faces a fight to take his dad with him.
The Leeds featherweight secured a split-decision win against Kid Galahad in his home city on Saturday night to keep the IBF world title.
Now Warrington wants a mega-money unification fight against the other champs — Gary Russell Jr, Oscar Valdez or Leo Santa Cruz — across the pond.
But Warrington’s father and coach Sean O’Hagan is scared of flying so may not be in his corner.
O’Hagan said: “I’m excited and can’t wait for where Josh goes next. But I don’t even know if I’m going yet — I don’t like flying. And I haven’t saved my pennies for Vegas. I’ve got no money!”
AMIR KHAN’S REVENGE
AMIR KHAN has vowed to gain revenge on Pakistan’s Cricket World Cup loss to India – by beating unknown Neeraj Goyat.
Pakistan were beaten by 89 runs – and Khan plans to gain revenge when he fights Indian boxer Goyat on July 12 in Saudi Arabia.
Khan said: “Pakistan lost to India today #ICCWorldCup2019 come July 12th I will avenge the loss and knock out Neeraj Goyat on our upcoming fight in #SaudiArabia.”
The Bolton hero faces Goyat in a Pakistan vs India tournament staged by the Super Boxing League – which Khan also promotes.
